Symposium on the Future of Learning in a Co-Intelligence World
Date: 4 December 2025
Venue: IIT Madras
This symposium explored how AI is transforming education: what is taught, how learning happens, and what should be measured. Talks by Prof. B. Ravindran, Prof. Manu Kapur, and Prof. Viraj Kumar examined themes such as early computational thinking, "productive failure" as a pedagogy, and the need to teach students to critique and clarify AI outputs rather than only generate them.
A panel featuring Prof. Mitesh Khapra, Dr. Sarayu Natarajan, and Prof. Karthik Raman debated questions around AI tutors, inequality, and the future of degrees, highlighting tensions between personalization and citizenship, structure and flexibility, human mentorship and machine support. The symposium concluded with an Ethnographic Experiential Futures (EFX) workshop where participants visualised diverse learning futures in 2030 and surfaced recommendations for policy and practice.
