Industry Conclave on AI Governance 2026

Theme: AI Measurement and Governance

In-Person Event
Thursday, October 22, 2026
09:00 AM to 05:30 PM
TTJ Auditorium & Halls 1-4, ICSR, IIT Madras

Context

Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems are rapidly transitioning from research lab settings to real-world deployment settings across various sectors at a rapid pace. In this transition, they interact with existing technological workflows and unique socio-technical processes. This widespread adoption of AI across sectors is mirrored by a rapidly shifting regulatory and policy landscape. In this context, for governance to be effective, we need multi-dimensional measurement regimes across nuanced scenarios and domains that can capture aspects of governance. For example, how does one measure the fairness, safety, robustness, privacy, and security of AI systems across deployment contexts, whether in India, in healthcare, or in the more specialised context of Indian healthcare? Accordingly, this conclave seeks to advance dialogue on how AI governance can be grounded in highly tailored measurements for the ever-changing landscape of AI in the myriad contexts that it will engage with, further cementing that measurement and governance are intricately intertwined.

In this regard, we invite academicians, researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, startups, and practitioners/deployers to foster a healthy, constructive dialogue and knowledge sharing.

Event Components

Keynote Talks Thought leaders set the stage with perspectives on the state of AI governance and the measurement infrastructure needed to support it.
Highlights & Spotlight Talks CeRAI researchers and collaborators present annual highlights, research outputs, toolkits, and reports.
Panel Discussion A cross-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder panel debates the hard questions around ‘AI Governance and Measurement’.
Hands-on Workshops To give participants a practical, working exposure to Responsible AI tools and frameworks for governance, measurement, and deployment.
Startup Showcase Startups building AI solutions for India / the Global South, showcasing practices in AI measurement, evaluation, observability, compliance, and governance.

Objectives

1

Measurement as Governance Core

Establish measurement as the operational cornerstone of effective AI governance frameworks, translating regulatory and ethical mandates into auditable, quantifiable criteria.

2

Knowledge Sharing and Dissemination

Disseminate research, evaluation methodologies, metrics, and tools, equipping participants to potentially operationalize governance within their own organizations.

3

Interdisciplinary Dialogue on Responsible AI

Foster structured, cross-sector dialogue on standards and frameworks for Responsible AI aspects such as fairness, explainability, privacy, security, and responsible deployment, addressing questions of measurement scope, standard-setting authority, and the trade-off between rapid innovation and governance rigour.

4

Convene and Collaborate

Bring together researchers, enterprises, startups, framework developers, and policymakers to identify shared measurement standards and catalyse new collaborations across the measurement-and-governance value chain.

5

AI Startup Showcase

Provide a dedicated platform for emerging startups building AI governance, measurement, evaluation, and legal and regulatory compliance solutions to engage with tech researchers and policy experts.
